Types of Security Cameras
Security Cameras can be a major deterrent to criminals when it comes to protecting your property. Rather you are on an extremely low budget or you have a high budget, there are several options you have. There is a broad range of security cameras available. The question you may have is, “Which one should I get?” Well by understanding the different kinds of surveillance systems and cameras will better help you in choosing what you need. Below is a quick description of different types of cameras.
* Covert surveillance cameras – These cameras are sometimes called nanny cameras or spy cameras. You can find covert security cameras that are wired and connects to a VCR or TV or they even have memory SD cards that record when turned on. Some examples of what these may appear look like are: Motion detectors, alarm clocks, wall clocks, stuffed animals, home decor, and just about anything. Each and every item out there can easily be a hidden camera or covert camera. You can literally be recording all kinds of activity and be discreet about it.
*Fake security cameras – These cameras look like the real thing, however they do not record and are completely fake. Yes, they can be a deterrent, but if something shall happen, you would have no proof of it. These can be purchased in domes or stand-alone wall mounted cameras.
* Wireless security cameras – The wireless surveillance cameras are easy to setup, easy to move, and no wires to run. These are good cameras, however, they do pick up interference quite easily if you do not get a good quality camera. From experience, the ones that are sold at retail stores for about $140 and below are ones I found to have a lot of interference.
* Wired surveillance cameras – These cameras can easily be found in kits that are sold with DVR’s as well as by themselves. These cameras would be ideal for any type of setup that would not require the camera to be moved. You can find these cameras for Do-it-Yourself people or you can have a professional install them.
* Home surveillance cameras – Home surveilance cameras can be any of the above mentioned types of cameras, depending on its use. A good home setup would include a H.264 DVR. When choosing the dvr, make sure it has the ability to be viewed remotely. This way while sitting at work or on vacation, you can see whats going on at your house. Most DVR’s can also be tied into an Home Security Alarm System. When your alarm goes off, it can trigger your DVR to start recording.
* Night vision (IR) security cameras – Alot of cameras mention IR in the title. IR is simply described as Infared which can also be related to night vision. These are ideal for low light situations and or night time recording. These typically record color by day and black/white by night. The more and bigger IR’s there are, the better the camera will see at night.
I hope this gives you a better idea about Security Cameras rather it is for your home, business, hobby, or enjoyment. And remember many cameras look the same, but it is the insides that matter the most.
